Surgical Education
Supporting structured feedback and assessment for surgical training.
Research / 001
Turning surgical video into measurable, evidence-grounded assessments of operative quality.
01 / The challenge
Assessing surgical performance often requires experienced surgeons to manually review operative recordings.
This process can be time-consuming, subjective and difficult to scale. We are investigating how computer vision and machine learning can support more systematic assessments of surgical quality.
02 / Our research
Our initial work focuses on video-based assessment of surgical procedures for gastric cancer, combining clinical expertise with AI research.
03 / Potential applications
These are intended directions for research and product development, not currently deployed clinical capabilities.
Supporting structured feedback and assessment for surgical training.
Enabling more scalable analysis of operative performance.
Exploring intelligent visual systems that could eventually support surgeons in real time.
Research to application
Recorded evidence is the starting point. Each future step depends on careful validation, reliable evaluation and clinical collaboration.
Conceptual research pathway. It does not represent an available clinical product, validated performance or regulatory approval.
04 / Research status
Conducted through an independent collaboration with a clinical surgical team at Beijing Friendship Hospital.
The hospital is named to describe the clinical research collaboration; this does not imply corporate sponsorship or commercial partnership.
